Als eine der beliebtesten Drumcomputer wird die SR-16 sowohl von Komponisten, Studiobesitzern und bei Auftritten genutzt - aus dem einfachen Grund: die 233 hervorragend klingenden natürlichen Sounds, die sowohl als unbearbeitetes als auch als mit Hall bearbeitetes Sample vorliegen. Durch die "Dynamic Articulation™" Funktion ist es möglich, das eigentlich statische Sample in Abhängigkeit von der Anschlagstärke mit realistischen Klangveränderungen (Tonhöhe, Lautstärke und Klang) zu spielen.
Die 50 Preset Pattern, die sich im Gerät befinden wurden von echten Schlagzeugern eingespielt und unquantisiert im Gerät abgespeichert. Viele andere Drumcomputer verwenden programmierte Pattern, die das mschinenhafte Verhalten nicht ablegen können.
Zu jedem Pattern gibt es eingebaute Variationen und Fill-ins, um komplette Arrangements zu gestalten. Natürlich können eigene Patterns, Fills und Variationen erstellt und abgespeichert werden.
Die SR 16 ist vollkommen MIDI-steuerbar, unterstützt den Anschluss von Fußschaltern, ist flexibel und einfach zu programmieren und verfügt über 12 anschlagsdynamische Pads. Mit der einfachen Bedienung wird der kreative Prozess optimal unterstützt. Das Arrangieren kompletter Drumparts für einen Song ist in wenigen Minuten erledigt.
