The Mick Ronson 1968 Les Paul Custom Antique Natural Murphy Lab Light Aged is a highly exclusive Collector's Edition from the Gibson Custom Shop – a painstaking recreation of the guitar that defined the sound of the David Bowie era.
Limited to just 100 units worldwide, this model was handcrafted in Nashville to replicate every detail of Ronson's original instrument. Originally an Ebony model, Ronson famously stripped the finish off the top to enhance the sound, resulting in its iconic Antique Natural look. The Murphy Lab Light Aging expertly recreates the wear, tear, and "stripped" aesthetic of the original vintage 1968 Custom.
The guitar features a 1-piece mahogany body with a 2-piece plain maple top. The mahogany neck, carved to an Authentic '68 Medium C profile, is paired with a dark ebony fingerboard featuring Mother-of-Pearl block inlays. To capture Ronson's aggressive and melodic tone, Gibson installed two unpotted '68 Custom Humbuckers with Alnico 2 magnets and removed covers. The hand-wired electronics include 500K CTS potentiometers and Black Beauty/Black Cat capacitors for that authentic late-60s signal path.
From the mismatched control knobs to the Grover Rotomatic "Milk Bottle" tuners and the aged gold hardware, this guitar is a breathtaking piece of rock history designed for the most serious collectors.
